August 16, 2011 The Honorable Mayor Chuck Reed the San José City
Council members recognized Mr. Gale with a City Commendation
for his successful community partnerships, for his work
helping to bring the arts to youth, and his efforts in
fundraising for special school programs.
Gale was proclaimed San José's Ambassador of Jazz by
then mayor, Norman Y. Mineta in 1974 and in 2006
received the Jefferson Award for his
public service in the arts.
